'Fame Won't Change Robert Pattinson,' Says Pal
Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson would never let success and fame swell his head, says British musician Bobby Long, a longtime friend.
"[Rob] is the best person all of this could ever happen to," Long tells Celebuzz. "It would never affect Robert the wrong way."
Bobby--who contributed two songs to the Twilight soundtrack--has been friends with Pattinson since a few years ago, when the two were struggling artists in London.
"Robert lived in a dingy, horrible, little flat in Soho near Denmark Street," recalls Long. “
We used to hang out and play music until five in the morning. We only ate pizza for like two months. We ballooned in weight, watching films, listening to music and writing."When Pattinson returned to London after shooting Twilight, Long and musician pal Marcus Foster played a song for Rob that they had co-written called Let Me Sign. "[Robert] thought the song was really cool and took it to L.A.," recounts Long (pictured to left). “Before I knew it, it was going to be used in the film." Pattinson performed the song on Twilight's best-selling soundtrack.
Despite his quiet demeanor, Rob is ferociously talented. "He's extremely talented," says Long. "Just as talented with his music as an actor."
Pattinson's Twilight co-stars have also gushed about what a great guy Rob is. "He's such a humble guy," says Kellan Lutz, who plays Emmett Cullen in Twilight. "I'm very impressed with him."
Not surprisingly, Pattinson has received high praise from his female co-stars. "He’s really talented, really smart," says Nikki Reed, 20, who plays vampire Rosalie Hale. "He’s really musical, he’s an intellectual.
Similarly, co-star Kristen Stewart adores the 6'1" British hunk. "He's a good actor and has a really insane work ethic," says Kristen, 18.
"He is really sensitive; he's perfect."For now, Pattinson is in Vancouver filming New Moon, the sequel to Twilight. Shooting will take place in Vancouver and Italy, with the film scheduled to come out in November.
After New Moon wraps, Rob will take a brief break and then begin shooting Eclipse, the third installment in the Twi book series. Eclipse will hit theaters in June 2010--a mere 7 months after New Moon debuts.
For Pattinson, the past year has been a roller-coaster ride in overnight superstardom. The reserved Brit now has paparazzi staking out his every move, and celebrity tabloids speculating on his personal life.
But close friends insist all the fan adulation and success won't change the self-effacing, modest Pattinson.
"[Rob's] exactly as he always was," says Long. "He's very down-to-earth and humble, just a normal lad."
